To peel shrimp, grasp the legs on the underside and pull the peel away from the meat.


Remove the tail if you needed. The shells can be used to make a terrific broth.

Shrimps are edible without being deveined, although many people prefer to eat deveined shrimp.

This dark black vein that run through a shrimp’s body is actually its intestinal tract. It contains some waste from the shrimp’s body.


To devein a shrimp, use a paring a knife to make an incision down the curved backside of the shrimp, following the dark line of the intestinal tract.


Use the tip of the knife to scrape out the gray vein or pull it out in one piece and rinse the shrimp under cool water.
