Summer Trip 2014 Savannah Georgia part six : around town

Savannah Georgia is the oldest city in the U.S. State of Georgia, established in 1733.

Savannah’s architecture, history & reputation for Southern charm & hospitality are international known.

Savannah is the primary port on the Savannah river & the largest port in the State of Georgia.  Savannah is Georgia’s fifth largest city & third largest metropolitan area.

Savannah each year attract million of visitors.

Savannah is the birth place of Julliette Gordon Low ( founder of the Girl Scouts of United State of America).

The downtown area is one of the largest National Historic landmark districts in the United States. The city location offers visitors access to the coastal islands & the Savannah Riverfront both popular tourist destination.

Tybee island formerly known as “Savannah Beach”. Is the site of Tybee Island light station the first lighthouse on the southern Atlantic Coast.

Savannah has numerous house of worship include Cathedral of St John the Baptist ( Roman Catholic), First Baptist church (1833) & Temple Mickve Israel ( the third oldest synagogue in the U.S.)

Downtown Savannah  largely retains the original town plan prescribed by founder James Oglethorpe.

Today Savannah is an industrial center & important atlantic Seaport.
