BLACKBERRIES FARM

Few weeks ago we drove out to the farm. It’s been a while since I went to the farm.

When my kids were little I used to go to the farms quite often.

This time we went to Valley Home Farm. My friend took us to this farm. This farm is specializing in pick your own or picked fresh Strawberries, Blueberries & Blackberry . This time we are planning to pick fresh Blackberries. The farm is located in Southern Tennessee near Wartrace just about 50 miles Southeast of Nashville. The farm is open mid April through mid June.

They also have Strawberry or Blueberry ice cream, Strawberry cakes, breads, jam & Strawberry honey pops.  They have this according to the season. When I visited they didn’t have anymore Strawberry & Blueberry. The Strawberry seasons only April through early June. Blueberry & Blackberry seasons early June through mid July.

They have fence are just for their own chickens & separate fenced for a cow name Milly. I saw her from far away but it took me by surprise  when I called her name she is come to me right away, together with her come along also the goat.

We kept walking passed the strawberries field and eventually we get to the Blackberry patches. just in a few minutes we filled up our basket with ripe Blackberries. We head back to the store, you pay by the pound for what you have in your basket.

Even though it’s no longer Blueberry seasons we still can get Blueberry Ice cream.

By the time we get home we ate some & the rest of the Blackberries are used to make oatmeal Blackberry bars, Blackberries Tart & Blackberries jam.

Berries will keep well refrigerated in an uncovered plastic container for 2 or 3 days. If your berries don’t get finished in that time freeze well in plastic bag with little air as possible & can keep up for about 2 months.

Spend time in the farm, getting down in the dirt & picking your own fruit is a great way to spend times with your family.
